renie Interesting discussion there in the comments..
I would not mind Medium being "AI-driven" in some parts of its content (unlike with Reddit), i.e. I don't mind the artificial aspect that much, depending on the topic. I even think that AI's power should be put to good use w.r.t technical writing, explaining concepts, teaching etc. I'm just concerned about truth, and I don't think Medium has done a good job at that, even before chatGPT came to life.
As for plagiarism and copyrighting.. that has been an unsolved problem for decades now. Generative AI simply emphasizes it, though the blockchain world has been going at it for a while now trying to come up with solutions (e.g. NFTs)
One more thing that comes to mind, in terms of creative content:
If you get an AI and let it run in silo, it will simply regurgitate the same thing in different shapes. It cannot "create" a truly new perspective, it simply shuffles the same deck of cards, and the combos might be new for sure, but not the cards themselves. So this brings me to the question: "Can Medium really survive with as much creativity as people can produce in it, or does it need to feed people useless content or seemingly-new ideas which are not new?"
I think it needs useless content, because it never fostered creativity as it should have. At that point, what's the issue with having AI do the useless content for you? 🙂
